Should I Bother?

Should You Bother with Chess? Taking Lessons From a Pro

Listen Later

Did you know, there’s over 600 million chess players worldwide?? Not sure how they count that. Maybe from the number of people playing chess online these days?

With that many chess players, that’s a LOT of people who think this something you should bother with. Sadly, we’re from the other school of thought - that this game is very boring and reserved for the nerds and old white men among us.

But don't take offence just yet. This podcast is always our excuse to challenge those preconceptions to see if there's any truth in them.

Starting from the absolute square one with the game, we're out to cover everything in this episode - the chess board setup, the various chess pieces, how the game even came about and if you should try getting lessons from someone who knows how to play.

Also discussed - the absolute state of popcorn that isn’t salted, taking the piss out of chess legends, and our game of the week: “Once U-Pawn A Time”.

So if you're at a bit of a "stalemate" (big fat pun intended there) on whether to try chess - or maybe thought you could be a prodigy from simply watching The Queen’s Gambit - listen in and we’ll give you an idea on whether this game is worth your time or not.

Liked this episode or have a suggestion for something we should bother doing? We’d love your review!
