When we think of the kind of professionals that help people with disabilities, we often picture doctors and physical therapists. But did you know that occupational therapy assistants can also assist your loved ones with a variety of needs? What are key ways to know if your family member needs help with OT? 

 

This week’s Pre OT Secrets, Jesica Lopez will interview Diamond Rashad. Diamond is a pediatric occupational therapist located in Savannah, GA, with over five years of experience in early intervention and outpatient pediatrics. She serves as the local coordinator for Postpartum Support International and invests in outreach opportunities for black students who are underrepresented in the occupational therapy field. She is passionate about serving the community and bringing light to the intersectionality of race and disability.

 

They will touch on such topics as:

  • How to help your children develop their gross and fine motor skills through activities, ranging from play to simple household chores.
  • The challenge every mother faces during pregnancy and postpartum? 
  • Collaborate with clients and their families on functional, occupation-based goals to achieve maximum independence for their children.
