* Every few months we seem to receive a plan from MTV network as to how to recapture youthful viewers and become relevant again. MTV/VH1 president Chris McCarthy reveals that the latest plan is to shelf low budgeted scripted shows and move forward with music, reality TV and live programming. He says - We are going to pair those with great reality series. The real opportunity for MTV is bringing back big, over the top, lovable reality characters. That's what made MTV stand out --- great, soapy reality series that appealed to young viewers.
* Lawrence Fishburne believes that the criticism of the DCEU is unfounded and gives his opinion on why he thinks Dawn of Justice is a fine film
* Warner's top choice to direct a sequel to Suicide Squad is Mel Gibson.
* The top three box office leaders are all sequels with two receiving diminished returns. The winner was LEGO Batman with $55 million. It comes in under the first Lego movie, which grossed $69 million on it's opening weekend. The second is 50 Shades of Darker with $46 million almost dropping half of the first film, which grossed $85 million. The third is John Wick: Chapter 2 which came in at $30 million doubling the gross of the first movie that came in at $14 million.
* During his tour for John Wick 2, Keanu Reeves has revealed that there is a script for Bill and Ted 3.
* The main X-Men franchise was thought to be in limbo but Game of Thrones actress Sophie Turner who took over the role of Jean Grey in X-Men: Apocalypse tweeted that she'll start filming a new X-Men movie between Game of Thrones Season 7 (which just wrapped) and Season 8.
* Actor Kenny Baker is one of two actors to appear in all 8 Star Wars movies. With his passing last year actor Jimmy Vee will take over the role of R2-D2. Vee has said he had the pleasure of working with Baker, plans to honor everything he brought to the character and is honored to be part of the franchise. In other Star Wars news we are right under 2 months until Star Wars: Celebration the official convention hosted by Lucasfilm. There's rumors that big changes will be announced for non-film properties with a rumored announcement of a Netflix exclusive animated series. It's also revealed that author Chuck Wendig who has authored the Star Wars novels that are now canonical to the universe has revealed the fate of Jar Jar Binks giving the character a final bow to the series.
* The Walking Dead returned with 12 million viewers for it's premiere of Season 7B. That's 1.4 million higher than last season's highest rated episode. 7.3 million of those viewers are in the coveted 18-49 demographic. To put it in comparison The Big Bang Theory gets 14 million viewers per episode but only 3 million are in the 18-49 demo. Walking Dead is still far below it's season 5 premiere, which grabbed an incredible 17 million viewers and it's been announced that Big Bang has been signed on for two more seasons.
* Actress Kerry Washington of Scandal is rumored to be the frontrunner to portray Domino, Cable's partner in Deadpool 2.
* Sam Worthington has read all of the scripts for the Avatar sequels and gives us some insight as to what it'll be about
* Jon Favreau has cast Donald Glover as Simba and James Earl Jones who will reprise his role as Mufasa in The Lion King remake.
* JJ Abrams and Stephen King are teaming up to bring King's shared literary universe to TV called Castle Rock. Rumor is that HULU is the frontrunner to pick up the show.
* Actor Warren Frost has passed away at 91. After leaving the Navy after WW2 he started his acting career appearing on shows all the way through the 1990s. He made appearances on Matlock, Make Room for Daddy, Quantum Leap, Beauty and the Beast, LA Law, The Stand, Grace Under Fire, The Larry Sanders Show and Murder One. His most famous role was Dr. Will Hayward, the town doctor in Twin Peaks a show that his son Mark co-created with David Lynch.
