Show Me Faith: Pastor Michael Dascoli

Please turn in your Bibles to James 1:19-27
Note 2 words: “Listening” and “Doing”
1: Stick out your tongue and say, “Ah!” (19-21)
Question: How am I doing in the balance of speaking and listening?
19 My dear brothers and sisters, TAKE NOTE of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak…slow to become angry, 20 because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires. 21 Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.
App: How about we be more intentional about listening?
2: Look in the mirror and say, “Yikes!” (22-25)
Question: What have I heard that has never become a part of who I am?
22 Do not merely LISTEN to the word, and so deceive yourselves. DO what it says. 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.
“For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.” 2Timothy 4:3
…there is…no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.
Romans 8:1-2
App: How am I doing with that love thing?
3: Look in your wallet and say, “Hm-m”
Question: How can I show God’s love to a hurting world? (V 26-27)
26 Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless. 27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
App: Who am I helping?
