In 2012, California Fair and Inclusive Education Act required the state’s schools to incorporate LGBTQ+ history and related topics into grades 2, 4, 5, 8, and 11. The textbooks for this curriculum were only recently published and many of the state’s school districts have yet to train teachers on how to implement this curriculum. This month, we talk with Julz Goff, program manager, and Jorge Reyes, communications director, from Equality California about their recent”report card” on California’s schools and how they are doing complying with the many laws protecting LGBTQ+ students. We’ll also talk with EQCA staff about what this all means under the Trump administration.
