To be "sagacious" is to show keen mental discernment. Jesus tells a story in Luke 16 about a steward who, at first glance, appears to be skimming from the pot. He is taking advantage of the company and the company's clients to his own advantage. He is not sagacious at all, "swindling" would be more accurate! Some say it is the most confusing of all Jesus's stories. He appears to commend a dishonest person. How is it possible that an individual who lacks integrity can suddenly be hailed as a hero? As always with Jesus's parables, this comes to us straight from the heart of God. It has something to teach us about His grace and our desperate need. It also has lessons for us in learning to value the right things.
