Shane Hewitt and The Nightshift

SH&TNS - Throwback To 1967: Pucks, Pixels, & Pavilions

Listen Later

It's Throwback Thursday, and producer Tony got out of his cage and is taking us back to May 1967 – the last time the Toronto Maple Leafs won the Stanley Cup! While Shane Hewitt and the Nightshift Crew playfully banter about playoff hockey (with Shane, an Ottawa Senators fan, adding some spirited commentary), they'll highlight some key moments in Leafs history.

Later in the show, technology journalist Carmi Levy discusses the technology of the 1960s. He explains that while computers existed, they were primarily used by large organizations and corporations. Interestingly, he highlights the influence of the television show Star Trek on the development of much of today's technology.

Ed Conroy, founder of RetrOntario, joins Nightshift for a look back at Expo 67, held in Montreal. Ed says the celebration was a remarkably successful World's Fair, attracting record-breaking attendance from 62 nations. Despite initial challenges—including political opposition and logistical hurdles—and an initial plan to hold it in Moscow, Canada pulled it off, opening on time for Canada's centennial celebration.
