Six Pack Philosophy

Shutdowns, Filibusters, and Denying Quorum - Six Pack Philosophy

Listen Later

Minority Rules
In US politics, there are a handful of ways that minority voices can make sure they’re heard and in some cases cause a boat load of drama. In this episode, we discuss some of those ways, how they’ve been used in the past, and some of the ethical and pragmatic questions surrounding their use. Is it right for the minority to threaten or even follow through with a government shutdown to get what they want? Is a shutdown everything it seems like it would be? Are filibusters anything more than a dog and pony show? What about just running out on a meeting to prevent ANYTHING from happening. Uncool? Or better than the alternative?
