When you look at this chapter you might be asking, why did Peter devote more space instructing the wives and the husbands only get this one verse?

Well, the answer is because Christian wives were experiencing a whole new situation and needed guidance.

In general, women in the Roman empire were kept down.

And their new freedom in Christ created new problems and challenges.

Also, many of them had unsaved husbands and needed extra encouragement and enlightenment.

As Peter writes to the Christian husbands, he reminds them of four areas of responsibility in their relationship with their mates.
