Profound Conversations

Sight, Sound, and Movement to Heal Trauma

Listen Later

This episode of Profound Conversations delves headlong into current psycho-social related trauma. Conversation has been largely influenced by the work of the Mental Health Research Council and is intended to promote psycho-emotional healing through a series of novel interventions rooted culturally specific Sight, Sound & Movement activities.

An examination of cultural trauma caused by disparities, oppression and human denigration.

Sound therapy frequencies have been scientifically proven to treat a range of health challenges. Studies have demonstrated that sound therapy reduces pain, improves moods and speeds healing on a cellular level – making it an attractive noninvasive option for many people. Music has been linked with well-being across clinical and community settings. Yet, research has focused on assessment of single dimensions of well-being and on the typical receiver of support services. Acknowledging the burden that a caring role encompasses and integrating recent proposals for a multifaceted definition of well-being, we explore the extent to which group drumming interventions translate into multidimensional well-being change for both mental health service users and carers.
