Learning a new skill can be frustrating. You don’t seem to quite have the feel for whatever it is you are trying to do. There are so many things you naturally and easily do better, so it can be quite tempting to discard the new endeavor in favor of something more likely to bring a sense of full success and accomplishment. But there is value to the struggle. Eventually, you start to figure out how to do whatever it is you are trying to learn. With practice and repetition, it starts to feel more natural. And before you know it, you are over the hump and enjoying your new skill. With the Lord, this process is reflected in how we learn to move away from what we naturally do that is wrong. In the beginning, we can’t seem to stop or to find any other way to approach the matter. But it is vital that we let God teach us and that we patiently learn so that God’s power can be poured out on our lives in the way His heart desires for us.
