We’ve reached chapter twelve in our ongoing study of Job. Recently we’ve heard from Job’s three friends, who each in their own way criticized and condemned Job. They had wrongly assumed Job was suffering because of some unconfessed sin in his life. Well Job has had enough, and decides to speak out in chapter twelve.

I want to remind you that Job wasn’t the flawless servant of God that some people think he was. Despite his strong faith, Job had his moments when he questioned God’s motives. But though he had his moments of despair and even had a wrong view of God at times, Job still trusted God. When your faith is tested, will you pass the test like Job did?

Job is one of the oldest stories in the Bible, and the truths it contains are timeless. How would you fare if you were put through the trials that Job experienced? Job had friends to help him through, but they weren’t much help. In fact, their counsel was hurtful! Today we meet Job’s friend Bildad and his words of advice are no better than that of Eliphaz.

A British publication once offered a prize for the best definition of a friend. The winning definition read: "A friend is the one who comes in when the whole world has gone out." This is the kind of friend the apostle Paul was to the Thessalonians. They held a special place in his heart, that’s for sure. Yet, there were some who questioned his loyalty to them. His response is a valuable lesson in friendship for us all.

It’s amazing how bad advice can bring us down. But we can discern the good from the bad if we rely on God and take in His Word! That’s the lesson we’ll learn today as we open the book of Job. Pastor Bill Henry has an eye on chapters 6 and 7 and we’re about to hear Job’s interaction with one of his so called friends. Now, under normal circumstances, you’d think that when you’re struggling, your friends would be the ones to come to your aid.
