Acedia – Part 4 Why Praise God for It – Pain hurts. We don’t understand why God allows bad things to happen to innocent people. This isn’t fair! Painful, confusing, we cuss and spit and beg God to take the pain away. What do we do when we hurt? Can we lean on God and thank him for the bad things, the hurt and the pain? Steve points out why and how we can truth Him.

Noonday Demon – Acedia, Part 1 – What is it – Acedia is one of the Seven Deadly Sins. It is sometimes translated “Sloth” or “laziness.” But wait, it’s far more than that. Acedia is a sin that we all suffer from. The monks called it “The Noonday Demon.” Acedia feels like depression, but it’s not depression. When you just don’t want to be religious anymore.

Life is filled with suffering. There is good news in Christ. That God intervened to save and rescue us. Jesus is the center of God’s plan for History. Jesus is the basis for hope in the face of darkness, despair and ultimately death. Gods saving work has been accomplished solely through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Not earned by us in our effort, but received as a gift from God to us.

Jesus loves you, but don’t let it go to your head! Or, Jesus loves you, but you got to love Him back. Be careful about grace and don’t take advantage of it! No, no, no. We are always adding kickers when Jesus adds none. Jesus loves us UNCONDITIONALLY! (Luke 7:36-50)

The book of Joel was written in a really dark time. No hope, sad, empty, dark. During that time Joel wrote a book of light and truth in the midst of darkness. As Christians, we are light in the midst of darkness. Jesus had paid the price and we have a hope and a salvation. We are not there yet, but we have a dream of heaven. A hope for a future of love and acceptance.

“Steve, I used to think I was a Christian, but I’m not so sure.” “Steve, I’ve blown it bad, can you help me?” “I try to be good, but I just can’t!” Can we REALLY know we are His? (John 6:60-71, Philippians 2:14)

God is not a genie granting wishes. But Christ said “I have come to give you everything in abundance, more than you expect.” Can we be spiritual and still have success? (John 8:31-36; 2 Cor. 3:17)
