A new exhibit at the Freedom Rides Museum in Montgomery, Ala. has ties to the Northland. A restored bus – the same model as the one that was firebombed in Anniston, Ala., during the Freedom Rides on May 14, 1961 – was unveiled last week in commemoration of the pivotal Civil Rights Movement event. The bus had been donated to the Alabama museum by the Greyhound Bus Museum in Hibbing, Minn., whose volunteer bus enthusiasts searched arduously to find an exact match.
