Sinner v Alcaraz. A great tennis match 

The French Open semi-final, 2024

A thrilling match took place between two of the brightest young male tennis stars. The Italian Jannick Sinner and the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz arrived at the semifinal of the French Open as No 2 and 3 seeds respectively. 
Their paths to the semi-final road had been made easier by the retirement from injury of Djokovic earlier in the tournament. It also meant that the pundits were describing this match as effectively the final of the tournament. That is to say the winner was expected to be favourite to win the final against either Alexander Zverev or Casper Rudd.

The tournament had been bedevilled by bad weather throughout. But this semi-final began in sunny weather with the promise of true and high ball bounce suiting two powerful and skilful players.
