Today I am joined by Denver, who is an incredible example of Christlike charity.
Denver's story is raw, real, and full of hope. She was first exposed to pornography at age 10, spent years trapped in shame and addiction while publicly renouncing her faith in high school, battled severe depression and suicidal ideation, and finally rededicated her life to Christ in 2023. She has now been clean from pornography for over a year and is using her story to mentor other young women both online and in person at her church.
This episode is one of my favorites. Denver does not hold back — and I think that is exactly what someone who has been carrying this alone for years needs to hear.
In this episode we talk about:
- What it felt like to be exposed at age 10 and not understand what was happening
- Growing up in church hearing this topic only directed at guys and sinking in her seat
- How bullying, depression, and rejection fueled her addiction as a coping mechanism
- What it looked like to publicly renounce Christianity in high school while still feeling pulled back to God
- The moment at a young adults conference that finally broke the silence after ten years
- What happened when she told her parents — and how completely opposite it was from what she feared
- Why she was angry at God for forgiving her and what shifted that
- The difference between shame and conviction — and why not feeling shame after a slip is actually a sign that God is present
- What it means to want to be chosen by someone and how God's love meets that need
- How to find the right person to confess to — and why discernment matters more than timing
- Why nothing you have done can undo what Jesus did on the cross
Scriptures and references mentioned:
- Romans 8 — nothing can separate us from the love of God
- Hebrews 4 — since He was tempted in every way and did not sin He is our aid in temptation
- Isaiah 49:16 — behold I have engraved thee upon the palms of my hands
- Job — who are you to dictate what God can and cannot do
- Isaiah — how could the clay say to the potter what it deserves
- Hosea — God's relentless pursuit of His people no matter how many times they turn away
- 1 John 1:9 — He is faithful and righteous to cleanse us of all unrighteousness
