Sheehan and Stacker discuss the bizarre yet gritty win in Carbondale and look ahead at the Jackrabbits' upcoming opponent, The University of South Dakota Coyotes.
The Coyotes are off to the best start in program history at the FCS level, having defeated all FCS foes to date, including NDSU. South Dakota boasts one of the best defenses in the Valley this season and they're poised on offense behind the running game of Travis Theis. Aidan Bouman, son of NFL quarterback, Todd Bouman, is their field general. The lefty is efficient under center for the Yotes and has progressed nicely since taking over for the Yotes towards the latter part of '22.
The Jacks have not won in Vermillion after gift wrapping the last two contests in the Dakota Dome. One of which won the Yotes and ESPY. The Jacks are tallying nearly 40 pts per game on offense to the Yotes 26. While the defense for blue and yellow is holding the opposition to two fewer ppg (12.57) than the Yotes (14.4). Offensively they're averaging 5.0 ypg to the Jackrabbits' 6.9 on the ground. This is fascinating because the yotes are holding teams to 3.9 ypg rushing while SDSU boasts a stout rush defense at just 3.2 ypg allowed. Something's gotta give on Saturday!
It should be a battle that both squads no doubt take seriously--especially after the assault the Rabbits put on USD last season.
