Oh no! Not //more// overdrive pedals surely?! You better believe it – it can be a lifetime’s work to find just the right one and boy are we on that journey. So for no other reason than we felt like it, we assembled six cool new (ish) things and took a swing at them.
This is the audio from our YouTube video of July 6 2018.
In an unusual departure from the norm, what follows is some extra info that we either skirted over or didn’t know in the video. It’s a double-edged sword, diving too deeply into a company’s marketing materials before you plug in and play. Dan and I usually prefer the open-minded ‘what do we actually hear?’ approach, which can and does lead to some reactions that don’t always chime with the official hymnsheet. If we get stuff wrong, we fess up and put it right in a later video. With that in mind…
The Terry White Rabbit Deluxe //really// deserves more attention from us. For whatever reason we were struggling to get it to sit with the amps today in terms of level and dynamic. That underlines its position as a ‘preamp / line driver’ kind of thing, similar to what you might expect from the JHS Colour Box and the like. It will reappear, almost certainly when we’re recording actual real music.
The Keeley Aria Compressor Drive also has the TRS jacks function like the D&M Drive to enable you to place each effect in different loops on your true bypass loop switcher. Cool!
The Free The Tone pedals are from FTT’s Integrated Series and celebrate the 15th Anniversary of Free The Tone. It’s worth a read of the FTT website where they explain how the pedal casing and materials have been chosen with tone in mind. Hence the heavyness that we spoke about, perhaps! Yuki and team are super serious about this stuff – we didn’t mean to be flippant about it. But hey, this is TPS after all.
They also features FTT’s latest evolution of the HTS Circuit, which is a unique take on a buffer circuit. Even Matt Schofield likes it, and that’s about as high an endorsement as you’ll find!
Greuter is definitely from Switzerland, not Austria! Sorry Sascha!
