You’re sick of his shit, and you lose yourself in the rhythm of packing your bags. Folded shirts upon folded pants, you pound the percussive beat of emancipation into your duffel. No more, no more, thrums the chorus in your head, thoughts from a mind as clear as your tear-welled sight.

Another zipper sings it’s way shut and you start to look around for a new bag —a new verse, but just then the front door opens, It’s him. Your vision clears slightly, but only because the tears are falling freely. You tell him “No,” that you’re “—not going through “this again,” that when he abandoned you last night for an impromptu Six Flags trip with “the boys”, that it was the last straw.

He can tell you’re upset, but still manages to tell you all the things that you loathe to hear: not to ”be like that”, that he “still cares”, that he only left because the “vibes were just like, all wrong last night.” You turn away from him and and start to pack. He buzzes in your ear. He knows he fucked up and he’ll do better, just let him “make it up to you,” he swears that he can.

You stop and ask him how. “A three hour show!” He tells you, and you resume packing. “And a Jack The Vote!” You stop packing and stare at him. ”A-and a CaitPaint?” He adds. You continue to stare, but consider his proposal. He squirms under your gaze.

“Well. It’s a start..” You reply.
