Slaying the Giant of Lost Hope
Pastor Greg Kritz
God has a mission for you and it’s likely linked to whatever breaks your heart.
Moses heart broke over oppression of Hebrews.
Exodus 2:11-12 - Exodus 3:7
God has a mission especially for you and has prepared something in advance for you to do…
Ephesians 2:10
“we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
You may never lead something great, but God will invite you to take part in something great.
Nehemiah gets a report about Jerusalem
Nehemiah 1 (NIV)
1 The words of Nehemiah son of Hakaliah:
In the month of Kislev in the twentieth year, while I was in the citadel of Susa,2 Hanani, one of my brothers, came from Judah with some other men, and I questioned them about the Jewish remnant that had survived the exile, and also about Jerusalem.
The report is bad news
Nehemiah 1 (NIV) [cont…]
3 They said to me, “Those who survived the exile and are back in the province are in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates have been burned with fire.”
Nehemiah’s reacts to the news…
Nehemiah 1 (NIV) [cont…]
4 When I heard these things, I sat down and wept. For some days I mourned and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven.
God’s heart aligns with my heart so we share a burden neither God nor I can bear
What can’t you stands no more?
Jesus shows us how to respond to burdens
Matthew 9:36-38 (NASB)
36 Seeing the people, He felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and dispirited like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then He *said to His disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.
The response to burdens is always to seek God
Matthew 9:36-38 (NASB)
38 Therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.”
Burdens for Impossible situations start with a conversation with the “All-things-are-possible God”
Nehemiah 1:5-6
5 Then I said: “LORD, the God of heaven, the great and awesome God, who keeps His covenant of love with those who love Him and keep His commandments, 6 let your ear be attentive and your eyes open to hear the prayer your servant is praying before You day and night for Your servants, the people of Israel.
If you want God’s full support, you’ve got to be right with Him
Nehemiah 1:6
I confess the sins we Israelites, including myself and my father’s family, have committed against you.
Divine burden and prayer are followed by a step of faith
Nehemiah 1:11 (NIV)
…Give Your servant success today by granting him favor in the presence of this man.” I was cupbearer to the king.
A burden that God is behind will appear impossible.
God doesn’t get the glory if you can fix it without Him.
