Dr Jekyll Q: Mr. Hyde would you be so kind to give us historic perspective of migration in Britain?
Mr Hyde A : The historical immigration to Great Britain concerns the movement of people, cultural and ethnic groups into the island of Great Britain which started by the first Roman invasion of Great Britain which was led by Julius Caesar in 55 BC. The Romans had many supporters among the Celtic tribal leaders, who agreed to pay tribute to Rome in return for Roman protection. The Romans returned in AD 43, led by the Emperor Claudius, this time establishing control, and establishing the province of Britannia. Obviously, Britain was and it is attractive for a lot of tribes, nations and various ethnic groups. For that reason the British Isles were the object of different foreign invasions for many times. However, the conquerors always had to have a dialogue with the conquered, producing sooner or later a mixed society with elements from both.
Dr Jekyll Q: : Mr. Hyde would you be so kind to give us historic perspective of migration in Britain?
Mr Hyde : For quite some time, Britain was a separate island from mainland Europe and it protected its territory from wars and many other problems.Globalization and series of industrial revolutions and two world wars and particularly the cold war changed the world, changed Britain.Especially during the cold war years Britain became the shining city on a hill whose beacon light guided freedom-loving people from the Eastern Bloc and other parts of the world. The twentieth century was an era of profound societal and economic change. Globalisation has reduced its pace after the financial crisis, at least in terms of global trade of physical goods and services. However, industries were always pursuing the structural changes implied by the rising extent of the market brought about by globalisation and digitalization. As you know ity takes, among other factors, skilled and not so expensive labour force. That was the question business leaders had at the time and the answer was highly intelligent, hard- working and cheaper than domestic labour force which came from India, Hong Kong, China and war -torn areas of former Yugoslavia.
Dr Jekyll Q: Of course, Bratain is recognized and attractive for many boarding and grammar schools like Eton for example and Oxbridge.
Mr Hyde A:
Indeed. I am aware that british education system is one of the best in the world.I would even add Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry which is, actually, the best commercial for both public grammar schools and universities in Britain. The academic elite is produced in Britain.Young people around the globe are quite aware of that fact. That is possibly the main reason for migrating to Britain.
Dr Jekyll Q: What about low skilled labour force. What might be their future with respect to migration to Britain.
Mr Hyde A:
Well, obviously, Downing Street 10 must protect scarce jobs for native work force while promoting migration of highly skilled workers from other parts of the world. It is simple as that.
Dr Jekyll Q: Do you support permanent migration or maybe temporary one?
Mr Hyde A:
Actually, it is not matter of o r- or. It is an and -and issue. After all, since Angles and Saxons, Normans etc. , Britain was probably the first melting pot of different cultural identities.Sadiq Khan is the current Mayor- that fact is sufficient to explain my attitude. Britain needs the best individuals from all parts of the world in order to maintain saying- Rule Britania.
Dr Jekyll Q: That means that you do not share some fears that Briatain might lose its original identity?
Mr Hyde A: Dr Jekyll, how many languages do you speak?
Dr Jekyll ; Only English, I shamefully admit.
