Tonight’s Sleep Meditation with Karissa is an invitation to spend some time in the ocean of being, letting the waves come and go. Meditation has taught Karissa that things come and go and come and go. Just like a wave. Emotions can act this way. You may feel totally fine one moment, and some time later, not so much. And that’s okay. You might be at the crest of the wave right now, but soon it will subside. Meditating before sleep can help us both become aware of this impermanence and allow us to become relaxed by the “wave” instead of disturbed by it.

 Let’s not confuse the wave with the ocean. The wave is a transient modulation in the form of the ocean. These waves of emotion can easily carry us away from the peace and contentment that is our natural state of mind. Rather than being hyper-vigilant about never letting waves of emotion get the better of us, another strategy is to pay attention to your point of view. Are you the wave or are you the ocean? The truth is you can be both.
