More than 63% of CoVid patients surviving an ICU stay were diagnosed with sleep apnea. Pulmonologists at the All India Institute of Medical Science report their analysis of 103 CoVid patients.
Of that number, 67 underwent a formal sleep study. Of those studied, 65 or 97% met the criteria for clinically-significant sleep apnea. Even more worrisome: 49/67 or 73% had moderate to severe sleep apnea.
Those discharged from the ICU after a CoVid bout require long-term followup to assess any multi-organ damage including that to their lungs. Included in their assessment should be screening for possible sleep apnea.
