Sleeping Beauty has been reworked by Charles Perrault in 1697, The Brothers Grimm in 1812, and Giambattista Basile, who wrote the first version between 1330 and 1344 in his book of fairy tales called The Pentamerone. Scholars believe that Perrault’s version was written as two separate stories based on the same format chosen by Basile but The Brothers Grimm chose to focus only on the first aspect of the story where Sleeping Beauty falls into an enchanted slumber and is awoken when the prince arrives. The Brothers Grimm version is notably the shortest and removes all of the story following the reawakening of Sleeping Beauty.
