A Sligo-Leitrim TD has backed calls for a smoking ban on a number of public spaces.
The Irish Heart Foundation has asked the government to follow in the steps of France where they have now prohibited smoking in areas such as beaches and parks.
Ireland was the first country to ban smoking indoors back in 2004.
Fine Gael Deputy Frank Feighan says he will support any initiative that aims to save lives:
