Hopes have been strengthened for improved rail connectivity in Sligo.
It comes as the Junior Transport Minister Sean Canney has stated that it's a question of when and not if that work will start on reopening the disused line from Athenry and Claremorris.
The proposed move is seen as a major link along the Western Rail Link and attentions are already turning to when there will be developments for the Claremorris to Collooney line.
Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council Fianna Fail Cllr Donal Gilroy says extending it to Sligo would be the next logical step:
