It's the most magic moment/stage of Kallitype development, the moment when you pour developer over the exposed image and you can see it for the very first time... Most of the image becomes visible immediately, but details are only completely there after around 30-60 seconds. The rest of the 45-50 minute development process is mostly to refine contrast, tones and making the print resistant to aging and to achieve archival stability, e.g. via multi-stage clearing to dissolve and remove any obsolete iron, toning via salts of precious metals or other compounds, fixing and several rounds of rinsing...
