(Uchat v shkole)

That's what they teach us in school

To write different letters in an exercise book with a fine quill

That's what they teach us in school

To add up and take away, not to be mean to the smaller ones

That's what they teach us in school

To add two to four, to spell out words

That's what they teach us in school

To love good books, to be brought up well

That's what they teach us in school

To find the East and the South, to draw a square and circle

That's what they teach us in school

Not to confuse islands and towns

That's what they teach us in school

About verbs and dashes and the rain in the backyard

That's what they teach us in school

To make true friends, to cherish friendship since childhood

That's what they teach us in school.

  • 85 – SMOKING in Russia

Smoking in Russia (Курение в России).

    Translation:

Let's talk about smoking in Russia. First, some facts. Russia has one of the largest smoking populations in the world with nearly one-third of its adult population smoking cigarettes regularly.

In 2013, the government banned cigarettes advertising and smoking in public places. The minimum age to purchase tobacco is 18 years old.

As for my own experience, I know only one person who smokes regularly – my mother-in-law. All the other smokers I knew quit smoking long time ago.

    Translation:

Sometimes I feel like the soldiers, Who never returned from the bloodied fields, Aren't perished in our earth, But turned into white cranes Since those long gone times until today They fly and give us signs, so we can hear them. Isn't this why so frequently and sorrowfully We fall silent, watching the sky? A tired flock is flying, flying up in the sky, Through the fog, at the end of the day. And among them there's a small gap, Perhaps that's the place for me The day will come when together with the cranes I will float in that same blue-gray mist, With a bird's hailing out of the heavens, Calling on all of you, whom I've had left down on earth. Sometimes I feel like the soldiers, Who never returned from the bloodied fields, Aren't perished in our earth, But turned into white cranes

  • 83 – History of rubles

    History of rubles

    Translation

In the Russian Federation, the currency named «ruble» is used.

First ruble coin appeared only in 1654 during the monetary reform of Alexey Mikhailovich.

In the 19th century, coins were made of copper, silver, and gold. The ruble became the third currency in value after the British pound and the US dollar.

In the 1920s, the ruble was denominated, and the monetary system was reformed: coins of 1, 3 and 5 rubles appeared.

The devaluation and denomination of the ruble occurred more than once later.

On July 1, 1992, the free exchange rate of the ruble was introduced, after which it immediately fell to 125 rubles per dollar. There were bills worth 50,000 rubles, 100,000 rubles, and 500,000 rubles.

    Today we use coins of 1, 2, 5 and 10 rubles, and banknotes of 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000 and 5000 rubles.

  • 81 – Russian superstitions I believe

    Russian superstitions today ;)

    Translation:

Today I will tell you three superstitions I believe.

First. Before a long trip the whole family should sit down and remain sitting an entire minute, so the journey will be good. We do it before each trip.

Second. If you went out of a house and then immediately return for some reason, you need to look in a mirror so the day would be fine.

Third. If you spill salt on a table, you ought to throw a pinch under the table, otherwise there will be an argument in the house.

    Lyrics:

    Translation:

The silence is above me The sky full of rain and this rain is piercing me out but there's no pain anymore

At the time when stars were whispering We had burnt our last bridge. Suddenly, everything falls down to a hellhole And I will become free Without evil and goodness My soul was like that blade runner (*on the edge of a blade)

I could be with you and forget about everything I could be loving you but it's just a game

With the noise of wind behind my back I'll get over (*forget) your voice I'll get over that love which burnt us out to ashes and I was losing my mind… Now there's no place for you in my soul

    Chorus:

I'm free – like that bird in the sky I'm free – I forgot the fear inside I'm free – like that wind-wildly I'm free – not in my dream but in realty

The silence is above me The sky full of fire The light is piercing me out And here I'm free again

I am free of love, of animosity and of rumors Free of fate of that bondage which held me down of evil and goodness… Now there's no place for you in my soul

Translation Ballet in Russia has become one of the calling cards of our country. According to sources, the first performance took place in 1670, during the reign of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich.

The real flowering of the Russian ballet fell on the turn of the 18-19th centuries, and by the beginning of the 20th century, it took the leading place in the world ballet theater.

World-famous Russian ballets - "Swan Lake" and "The Nutcracker" P. Tchaikovsky, "Romeo and Juliet" by S. Prokofiev and "Spartacus" A. Khachaturyan.

If you ever come to Russia, be sure to visit the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow or the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg.
