SLY & the Family Stone TRIPLE PLAY

Listen Later

Three segments of music by the sometimes brilliant, sometimes tragic, always interesting, SLY STONE (and THE FAMILY STONE).

Our first segment is an album from 2011: SLY STONE: I'M BACK! FAMILY & FRIENDS (Cleopatra Records). It's an interesting mix of brand new versions of Sly's classics - some featuring rock giants collaborating with Sly:
  1. Dance to the Music (featuring RAY MANZAREK of THE DOORS)
  2. Everyday People (featuring ANN WILSON of HEART)
  3. Family Affair
  4. Stand! (featuring CARMINE APPICE & ERNIE WATTS)
  5. Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin) (featuring JOHNNY WINTER)
  6. (I Want To Take You) Higher (featuring JEFF BECK)
  7. Hot Fun in the Summertime (featuring BOOTSIE COLLINS)
  8. Dance to the Music (Extended Mix)
  9. Plain Jane (original song to this album)
  10. His Eye Is On the Sparrow (original song to this album)
  11. Get Away (original song to this album)
  12. Dance to the Music (Club Mix)
  13. Family Affair (Dubstep Mix)
  14. Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin) (Electro Club Mix)
The second segment takes us back to 3:00 AM (3:00 AM!!), August 17, 1969 at the Woodstock Music and Art Fair (in neighboring town, Bethel, NY). Taking the stage (3:00 AM) are Sly & the Family Stone:

  1. M'Lady
  2. Stand!
  3. Sing A Simple Song
  4. You Can Make It If You Try
  5. Everyday People (incomplete by a few seconds...Our apologies)
  6. Dance to the Music (once again, incomplete by a few seconds...and again, sorry!)
  7. Music Lover/Higher
Our final (but not least) segment presents the 1979 album (or albumS, depending on which album edition you bought) titled, TEN YEARS TOO SOON. It was Sly's record label, EPIC RECORDS, hoping to cash in on the (by 1979) already dwindling first wave of disco. They remixed some of Sly & the Family Stone's biggest hits, in the hope that it would appeal to the disco/dance crowd:

     1. Dance to the Music
     2. Sing A Simple Song
     3. I Get High On You
     4. Everyday People
     5. You Can Make It If You Try
     6. Stand!
     7. This Is Love
RIP:  SYLVESTER STEWART (SLY STONE) [3/15/43 - 6/9/25] Age 82
         CYNTHIA ROBINSON [1/12/44 - 11/23/15] Age 71
