Señora Yvonne Logan is a transitional kindergarten teacher in the dual language immersion program at Kings Beach Elementary. She explains that language, social interactions, and play are fundamental to how the kids learn in her classroom. Dr. Christie Jackson is an optometrist and mom to 2 young children. Her practice is Truckee Family Eyecare, located just across the street from KidZone Museum. Christie shares a wealth of information for parents on how to support healthy vision for their children. She talks about red flags in small children (when to seek an evaluation) and her recommendation that every child have an eye exam before entering kindergarten. Christie also talks about screen time, the need to view real things in the distance, sunglasses, and healthy exposure to sunlight.

Truckee-based Mom and Engineer-Architect Renee Elsdon Jacobs shares how she continues to challenge and push herself to set FKTs - Fastest Known Times or speed records - on mountain trail routes. Renee is a volunteer Board member for the Donner Party Mountain Runners and has set multiple FKTs on extraordinary routes in the Sierras. Renee shares her strategies for making time to exercise and train while caring for her toddler full-time. Renee mentioned a book "The Joy of Movement," which is by Kelly McGonigal, PhD. School psychologist Nick Bartlett takes us through "The 3 Stands" of the Nurtured Heart Approach. Nick is the Special Education Program Specialist at Tahoe Truckee Unified School District. He volunteers his time on the KidZone Museum Board of Directors, and is a Dad to two elementary school children. Nick shared an overview of this relationship-based parenting approach, including very specific strategies and examples.
