Dr Ryan Storr is a ‘pracademic’ who is determined to move beyond research and reporting on how bad things are for the LGBTQIA+ community in sport. He is the co-founder of Proud2Play which is the peak organisation for LGBT sport in Victoria, Australia and a vocal advocate for enabling people in community sport to become more informed about and connected to diversity and inclusion.   Ryan is one of those people who is an activist, agitator and advocate and is very comfortable calling homophobia, vilification, and discrimination out. We talk about how LGBT inclusion has been the ‘poor cousin’ of diversity initiatives, and how homophobia and transphobia has been left to fester in some environments.   Ryan shared The Rainbow Roadmap, a fabulous tool to help organisations become rainbow ready and how, in the game I love most, Australian Rules Football, men are benefitting from the inclusion of women in all sorts of surprising ways.   This is an interview where you can learn how to create more inclusion in sport for the rainbow community, why inclusion is good business management skills, and how failing to take care of the rainbow community in sport is bad business management.   About Dr. Ryan Storr:   Ryan is the Co-Founder of Proud 2 Play inc. He completed his Ph.D. from Victoria University in Melbourne in 2017, and his thesis explored how community sports volunteers engage with diversity work. He is a lecturer and Academic Course Advisor at Western Sydney University, and his research focuses on diversity within the sport, with a specific focus on LGBTI+ inclusion in sport.
