“Pratityasamutpada” means that any thing is dependent on every other situation, cause and condition for its apparent individuality, basically broken down into “subject” and “object”. Of the sense consciousnesses, smell is one of the most immediate and spontaneous, it really doesn’t need much help from the thinking process. You could use any one of your sense consciousnesses to further educate yourself about your own subjective understanding of dependent origination rather than using the logical mind to come to a conclusion about it.
