Anne and Ruby have a book review for you; actually two book reviews, based on your recommendations! You voted on these books a while back, and our hosts read them, enjoyed them, and are excited to share.
Both books are from Dr. Jen Gunter, OB/GYN and New York Times bestselling author. Ruby read The Vagina Bible and Anne read The Menopause Manifesto, and both said these books fight misinformation and answer questions in a way that is scientifically accurate while being funny and relatable.
Ruby shares that The Vagina Bible empowers women with information about their … infrastructure. Unfortunately, many girls and women are uninformed about their own bodies and too shy to ask. Dr. Gunter explains the difference between the vulva and the vagina (which a lot of people really don't know!). And she gives the clitoris its due. It is not a mythical creature as was satirized in an episode of South Park.
If menopause feels like a problem for future you to worry about, The Menopause Manifesto explains how it can be thought of as "puberty in reverse" and relevant to understand regardless of your current phase of life. The history of how we look at menopause (a term that just celebrated its 200th anniversary!) can teach us a lot about both our bodies and society. As Dr. Gunter says in her dedication, "Your awesomeness is unrelated to your estrogen".
We would love to hear what you thought about Dr. Gunter's books too, so find us on Instagram or Twitter or send us an email at [email protected].
Keep the book recommendations coming! We plan to do more book reviews this year.
