Could some of the most uncomfortable things to talk about create the most change in the world?

Miki Agrawal believes so, which is why she’s built taboo-crushing successful businesses like her period-proof underwear company THINX, her pee-proof underwear company ICON, her gluten-free, farm-friendly pizza eatery WILD, and her newest modern bidet attachment company TUSHY.

In today’s episode, Miki speaks about what it was like the day she found out she was pregnant, why she didn’t wait to tell people about her pregnancy, and why she’s on a mission to prove to women that they can question the status quo, persevere against difficult odds, and continue to emerge as an empowered disrupt-her.

What makes Miki tick?

"I've always loved questioning the status quo and society's approach to things. Is there a better, more efficient, more environmentally friendly, more design considered, more artful way to do them? I've always been fascinated with the process of discovery, invention and rapid improvements and my favorite saying is "iteration is perfection". I feel a great sense of pride in having built successful companies that have tackled taboos head on, are truly changing culture and improving the lives of millions of people around the world. I've also learned a great deal of lessons (oh, have I ever) in the process of building these businesses and I look forward to sharing them as I go."

More about Miki's Companies:

ICON.

Miki co-created a gorgeous pee-proof underwear called ICON to help women stay their MOST unapologetic selves. For every pair sold, money goes to the Fistula Foundation to provide care for women with obstetric fistula in developing countries.

TUSHY.

Miki's newest brand is TUSHY (hellotushy.com) which upgrades the American bathroom experience with a modern, best-in-class, affordable bidet attachment. Wiping with toilet paper after you poop is not only ineffective but helps cause health issues like UTIs, hemorrhoids, yeast infections, anal fissures, anal itching (from wet wipes too!), not to mention kills 15 million trees to make the toilet paper. Toilet paper was introduced to America in the 1800s and Miki and her team agrees that it's time to get our butts into the 21st century. Each purchase helps Samagra combat the global sanitation crisis affecting 40% of the world.

THINX.

Miki is the Co-Founder / Chief Inventor-er of THINX: the period-proof underwear company that’s disrupting the $15 billion feminine-hygiene market. Under Miki's leadership, THINX was named Fast Company’s "World’s Most Innovative Companies of 2017" + one of Time Magazine’s 25 Best New Inventions of 2015. In its first giveback partnership, THINX helped over 60,000 girls in Uganda return to school. But that wasn't enough for Miki. So, 2017 marked the launch of the THINX Foundation (thinx.org), which will teach its *very own* newly-piloted health and entrepreneurship curriculum to girls around the world.

WILD.

Miki founded the acclaimed farm-to-table gluten-free pizza concept WILD. The restaurant rang in its 12-year anniversary in 2017 (ding)! She is opening her fourth location soon!
