In 2026, contractors across roofing, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, framing, and general construction sectors are struggling to recruit and retain skilled workers at a pace that meets growing project demand.
Infrastructure investments, housing demand, commercial renovations, and disaster recovery projects have all contributed to increased construction activity nationwide. At the same time, a large portion of the skilled labor workforce is approaching retirement age, creating a widening gap between experienced workers leaving the field and younger workers entering the trades.
