This week, Danielle is joined by the lovely Amanda Garren. Amanda is a social worker and the president of Nashville Angels, a non-profit supporting children and caretakers in the foster care system. She shares how she discovered her passion for social work, and how she takes care of her own mental health in such a demanding field. She discusses what schooling and classes are like for social work, and the value of integrated healthcare. D and Amanda also discuss youth aging out of the foster care system, the importance of care for these young adults, and the risks they face in making this transition alone. Amanda addresses the common myth that foster parents are just in it for the money, and emphasizes the importance of encouraging great foster parents, of which there are many. They discuss how you rarely hear about the small-town people doing great work, and so, we bring you this inspiring episode!
