After Notre Dame burnt, the world wondered about the huge disparities in compassion and financial support. The world wept while an old building burnt and yet children starve and poverty grows and we don’t weep. What accounts for these seemingly huge disparities? The key lays in the connection we feel to the suffering and one another. Without a sense of connection, we don’t care.
