Southern Humboldt has been without local veterinary service for 15 months. All this time, residents in the area have had to go to Willits or Fortuna to seek medical care for their animals. This is a part of a nation-wide pattern. All over the country, rural areas are seeing their vets quit or retire, unable to find replacements to take over their practices.
