WHERE IT’S QUIET

Solid Ground: What Remains After Heartbreak

Listen Later

There are things no one can take from you. This episode is about remembering what those things are — and finding your way back to them when you've drifted further than you realized.

I've been thinking about what remains after something falls apart. Not just the grief of it, which is real, but what's still underneath holding you up. What was always yours before anyone else entered the picture — and what stays yours after they leave.

I share about a recent relationship dynamic that slowly, quietly moved me further from myself. There was no single loud moment I can point to. It was more like a fog that thickened gradually — until I was sitting in a therapist's office, being asked to list my own qualities, and struggling to come up with anything true.

We talk about self-worth and what it actually means — why it's different from self-esteem, where it lives, and what it looks like when it's being eroded in such subtle ways you don't notice until it's almost gone. We talk about shame, and why reflective people can be vulnerable to turning someone else's version of them into their own if they are not spending enough time with themselves.

I also want to say something I wish someone had said to me sooner. Doing the inner work and being responsible for what happened to you are not the same thing. Healing is yours to do but the trauma was not your fault. The episode closes with two poems written in the middle of this season, when language was the only thing that felt honest.

Thanks for joining me where it's quiet. Stay gentle, stay whole, and keep returning to yourself.
