In this episode, Braus proposes a new diet for the planet: Sustainatarianism.
This diet maximizes human nutrient absorption against the ecological costs of carbon output and harm to biodiversity. Food waste is very harmful to the planet but vegetarianism and veganism do not forbid food waste, just meat. Moreover, there are certain types of meat such as grass feed beef and sustainable aquaculture that upcycle unusable ocean and tillage land into a supremely nutrient-dense food source. Tillage land and the ocean would not otherwise sequester carbon or help feed people or really provide much in the way of biodiversity, so growing cows or fish on this land is actually an ecologically smart move.
Tune in to this episode to listen to Braus and Scot exchange tales of their own explorations of vegetarianism and veganism, dumpster diving in college, and the challenges and opportunities of being a green citizen.
