Let’s get controversial!
The History and Legacy of “Mystery Science Theater 3000”, Chapter 13: Sunset on the Satellite.
Well, we’ve finally arrived to the moment I’ve been dreading: that time when MST3K riffed “Hamlet”. Why dreading? I don’t care about Shakespeare. And trust me, we’ll get into it.As a little bit of cultural exploration, I decided to break down the biggest feature adaptations of the play. Laurence Olivier’s Oscar-winner in 1948, Mel Gibson’s “sexy” revision in 1990, Kenneth “I’m a Fool for Dumping Emma Thompson” Branagh’s complete 1996 version, and an irritating modern reboot with Ethan Hawke in 2000.But don’t worry, there are jokes too, and special appearances from Ricardo Montalban, Grand Moff Tarkin, the Boys from Brazil, Mork from Ork, King Mufasa (technically), and Bill Murray.
