Sometimes I’m Just Thinking

Some days I find my mind wandering hither and yon. Today is one of those days and I found myself thinking about many things. Although I don’t aways spend my time thinking about the past, sometimes those memories from days past are well worth the journey back in time.

This time, the journey led me back to a time several years ago and I remembered the words to a song I wrote at that time called, “Then I Saw An Eagle.” As my mind began to consider the direction it was headed, I was definitely brought to a place where I was considering my successes and failures in those days and I recalled a verse of that song and it said:

“From my earthly view, my thoughts are so confused; I only see my problems, an endless range of dark mountains. “

Why does it seem that we always remember the times in our past when we failed or came short of our hopes, dreams or goals? I seems that those times surface much more readily than the successes we might have accomplished or enjoyed.

I pondered these thoughts and the reasons why I could so easily remember the negative things and not leave them in the past. At this point, I don’t know if they are things I don’t want to let go of or if they are things, fortunately or unfortunately, I still treasure in my memory and to this day I don’t want to let go of them.

Although I am not certain, I do think I learned from both the positive and the negative things I faced, but it still seems that the failures are the items I recall most vividly…
