Tune in for this week’s SommTalks wine tasting with the energetic and passionate Michael Muser of Grace. Together, we tasted and talked about the following wines of The Loire Valley:
2013 Pascal Janvier , Jasnieres, Chenin Blanc, Loire Valley
Muser’s passionate about wine made with heart and enjoys meeting and knowing the winemakers and understanding their philosophy, as is the case with Janvier. Muser ponders if vintage really matters, as he appreciates the winemakers’ product year in and year out. He jokes about loud sippers too.
“Slurping and excessively far away spitters” fascinate him. “The Slurp is NOT for novices,” he says as he chokes on a air-pulling slurp of this lovely Loire Valley gem.
2012 Domaine Guiberteau, Samur Rouge, Cabernet Franc, Loire Valley
Don’t worry about butchering the pronunciation” Muser says of this French wine…. just taste the wine. Cabernet Franc is his week spot, he admits, but he loves it in all its iterations. “It’s cute and funny, ” Muser says. “It’s a polite red wine, it knows it’s place and it backs off, with that classic French grit, like a crochety old guy smoking cigarettes.”
