Son of the North - Episode 9: Attila, Scourge of the Gods

Listen Later

In this episode of Son of the North, Rex joins a Koryos warband around the fire to recount the thought provoking and tragic tale of Attila the Hun, the Nomadic Steppe Warlord who was fated by the Gods to bring down the corrupted Roman Empires. Free from Christian Roman bias, this version of Attila's story reads more akin to Homeric Poetry - with Gods and Adversaries intervening and intertwining to alter the fate of this tragic Hero. This story provides many valuable lessons for young Kshatriyas (Noble-Warriors) to better understand their Dharma (Spiritual Duty).

Following this story, Rex explores the Huns in depth - just who was this mysterious tribe that swept through Europe in Late Antiquity? What were their ethnic origins? What religious beliefs did they hold? By examining how the Huns are represented in genetics, archaeology, and in ancient Norse poetry, Rex attempts to unravel this enigmatic culture and find their place within the many branches of the Indo-European family tree.
