This influences melodic construction as well as shifting moods and tonal colors, underlying and enhancing the feeling and meaning of the lyrics. Also highlighted is the use of borrowed chords, chord extensions and substitutions, pivot chords, major and minor scales and keys, as well as prepared and unprepared modulations. Examples are taken from U2, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Taylor Swift, Nirvana, Tom Petty and Bon Jovi.

Hi everyone, this next work in the series  for guitar and various instruments features a dialogue between 2 Guitars.  In this composition I feature what I believe is the most important compositional technique in all genres of music -  "Repetition and repetition with variation". In addition the use of petal tones and drones , notes sustained or repeated under the middle or above the music. The third technique highlighted is the Ostinato - A phrase motive riff repeated over and over creating an hypnotic force  a foundation on which all else is built - think of Stravinsky, Schoenberg, every heavy metal song -  actually all styles of music.
