‘Dead’ - frontman of the pioneering Norwegian black metal band, Mayhem - completed suicide by shooting himself in the head.   Finding Dead’s body, his bandmates removed fragments of skull to make necklaces, used lumps of gore to make a broth that they ate, and took photos. One of these  images became the cover art for the album Dawn of the Black Hearts. His suicide note simply read: ‘sorry about the mess’.
