Remember when Friday nights in Newtown meant something? When Council Rock football wasn't just participating but competing against the powerhouses like CB West and beating rivals like Pensbury? Those glory days of the 1990s feel like ancient history now.
The numbers don't lie, and they tell a story of stunning decline. Since 2015, Council Rock North has stumbled to a 26-79 record while South hasn't fared much better at 40-62-1. That's a decade of disappointment despite investing over $10 million in state-of-the-art facilities. We've built Hogwarts but forgotten how to cast spells. The coaching carousel spins endlessly – McKew, Kolache, Griner, Garrett at North; Bedesem and Szydlik at South – each bringing new systems but the same disappointing results.
What's particularly frustrating is how this affects student-athletes. College recruiters aren't exactly flocking to programs with losing traditions. Our kids deserve better than programs that treat the field like scenes from Final Destination, finding creative new ways to lose 42-7 every Friday night. Parents, administrators, community members – we need to demand accountability. Better coaching. Better recruitment. A culture of winning rather than moral victories. Because right now, we're not building character through adversity; we're simply normalizing failure. It's time to restore Council Rock football to its former glory. Our kids' athletic futures depend on it. If you care about the program, show up at board meetings, volunteer, and help create the change we desperately need.
Peace, Love & God Above! :-)
