Sorry to bother you, but if you haven't done so already, check out episode 57 of "The Reel-ists Podcast"! Oscar and Donnie discuss the film "Sorry to Bother You" starring Lakeith Stanfield and Tessa Thompson. To say this film was unique is an understatement. Oscar and Donnie both agreed that the film depicted serious social concerns (like socioeconomic injustice, race, corporate greed, etc.) in a very satirical way. Both also felt the film was unapologetic in its use of surrealism, along with the metaphors used throughout. While both applauded the film for its creativity, they also noted some things that might be potential problems for some viewers. Oscar felt that the film was marketed in a certain light, and in actuality, the storyline goes pretty far left midway through the film and ultimately ends up shifting the film into another genre. Donnie compared the film to Foie Gras, forewarning that this film is not going to suit everyone's palette. However, "Sorry to Bother You" is definitely one of the most original and thought provoking films of this year so far, and "The Reel-ists Podcast" applauds it on those grounds alone.
