Anointing with oil was an act rich with meaning and is further developed in the New Testament. He also explains how the Lord speaks to Moses from above the mercy seat.

What this teaches us is that when God speaks to us, He speaks as a merciful King. What did Jesus do for us?

It is on the cross that He extends the greatest amount of mercy and compassion, making it possible for all who repent of their sins to turn to Him. The cross is God speaking to us from that place of mercy.
