A special bonus episode of Sounds Like Stretford recorded live at StretFest 2026.

Captured throughout the day in the Old Library at Stretford Public Hall, this episode features quick conversations, reflections and moments from people attending the festival, offering a snapshot of Stretford through the voices of the community.

This episode was commissioned by the organisers of StretFest, Stretford Town Centre Forum, and supported by Trafford Council, Greater Manchester Combined Authority and the UK Government.

Yasmin and Anne reflect on memories of Victoria Park, local history and growing up around Stretford. From stories connected to Morrissey to reflections on how the area has changed over time, the episode explores memory, identity and connection to place.

Steven, Nigel and Lee share thoughtful and positive reflections on living in Stretford, speaking about community, belonging and the quieter parts of local life that often matter most. An honest conversation about the value of place and the people within it.

Michael, David and Dawn look back on the history of Stretford Town Centre, sharing memories of old shops, the famous fish tanks and the town centre through the years. The conversation also explores the area’s redevelopment and what people hope Stretford could become in the future.

Lauren  a youth worker reflects her work in the area, moving to Stretford and finding community through the people around her, while Sarah, 17, talks about what it’s like growing up in the area today. Together, the episode explores being young in Stretford and what keeps people connected to the place they call home.

Val shares memories of growing up in Stretford during the post-war years, from school life and childhood adventures to the impact the Munich air disaster had on the community around her. A warm and honest conversation about memory, change and everyday life in Stretford.
